Open Design Course
Lab version 0.3

The Open Design Course will open its doors in the Zwarte Zaal to share the results of a 10 weeks course on Open Design. The Open Design Course (ODC) version 0.3 can be explored by an extended community, that of KASK / School of Arts and the broader public in the form of an Open Lab. The Lab is an invitation and a space for encounters, participation and co-creation, showcasing a series of projects, workshops, a fashion show, a photoshoot and more.

Open Design Course is dedicated to refugees, asylum seekers and those who do not have access to higher education due to administrative, financial or social reasons. The course focuses on Open Design as a technological, cultural, artistic and critical practice. The course methods are based on co-creation and peer learning, putting an emphasis on new media literacy, FLOSS tools [Free/Libre/Open Source Software] and co-creation methodologies.

The course is introduced by a multidisciplinary and diverse teaching team, including ODC alumni. 14 participants are invited to use their educational, professional and cultural expertise to design collective and personal projects.

Open Design Course sees this week as a threshold, an open space of commoning and reciprocity, where our tools are shared and our open ended projects are inviting you to a dialogue.

Open Design Course

School of Arts Ghent and Kunstensite vzw offers a course in Open Design for refugees and asylum seekers currently staying in Belgium. The course program focuses on Open Design as a technological and as a cultural, artistic and critical practice. The course method is based on co-creation and peer learning, and puts an emphasis on new media literacy.

This 8-week course is open for refugees, asylum seekers but also “sans papiers” and people who does not have easy access to higher education. The course accepts a maximum of 12 participants. Candidates should apply by sending some background information about themselves. Our common language is English. There is no tuition fee, participation is free of charge. We can support your travel expenses to the course and also the lunch between morning and afternoon classes is covered by the course.
